Synopsis

A delicate and angular “pas de quatre,” Burn This is set in the downtown art scene of 80s New York, and focuses on the apprehensive love between a sequestered and emotionally tattered choreographer, Anna, and a gruff, manic manager of a New Jersey restaurant named Pale. Their only common language is their ineloquent painafter the death of a mutual friend and sibling.

Written in the midst of the AIDS crisis, there is an understated grief that runs throughout the play, and a mourning for the lost “innocence and freedom of yesterday” that leaves the characters in Burn This “not as open to the world as they used to be.” Their present is a long stretch of isolation and fear that leaves them feeling they have no choice but to work, or fight, or run.
